Governance
In the Bailiwick of Guernsey, public notaries are now governed by The Public Notaries (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2023, which was passed by the States of Deliberation in July 2022 and enacted in 2023.
The Law provides that public notaries practising in the Bailiwick are regulated by the Master of the Court of Faculties of the Archbishop of Canterbury (which regulates all public notaries in the United Kingdom).
The Master makes rules governing, amongst other things, education and training, ongoing professional development requirements, the practice, conduct and discipline of public notaries, the keeping of records and accounts, the handling of clients’ money, insurance and compensation requirements.
