Stuart has 25 years’ experience dealing with many facets of commercial law, including debt and asset finance projects, funds and investments, corporate and business acquisitions, insolvency and debt restructuring, and commercial insurance products as well as the associated regulatory aspects of the relevant areas of law. He is an expert in complex structural issues and frequently works with multi-disciplinary teams undertaking product development work.

  • Establishing a Guernsey-based corporate structure specialising in leveraged investment in UK SMEs.
  • Acquisition of minority stakes in a number of UK private companies.
  • Sale of the investment and fiduciary divisions of a significant local regulated entity.
  • Advising on the winding up of an insolvent cell of an insurance PCC and the regulatory implications of doing so.
  • Acting in a shareholder dispute relating to unlawful misappropriation of a member’s shares in an English company.
  • Advising on the remediation of a number of acquired financial services businesses.

After graduating from Oxford University, Stuart qualified as a solicitor in England in 1992. Prior to joining Babbé LLP he was a partner in the Banking and Asset Finance Group of leading City of London law firm Stephenson Harwood. He re-qualified in Guernsey in 2011 and leads Babbé LLP's corporate team.
